FAIR OR UNFAIR? 09/24/00 Past/Future Articles |

Have you ever watched the program “Jeopardy”? Many times the contestants are counted wrong for leaving out an a or the in the answer or even for mispronouncing a word. Seem unfair? How about Uzzah? God said don’t touch the ark, Uzzah did, and God struck him dead (II Sam. 6:6-7). Seem unfair? God told Moses to speak to the rock. He struck it, and Moses was not allowed to enter the promised land (Num. 20:7-11). Seem unfair? Nadab and Abihu offered strange fire to God and “there went out from the Lord fire and devoured them” (Lev. 10:1-2). Seem unfair? Many are the examples where God spoke and when man disobeyed he was punished severely even to the point of death. God has always punished the unrighteous.
There are many circumstances of life that would draw us away from God, but that does not make God unfair, for He has spoken. Peter did not ask God to remove the trials of life, but to give him the faith and courage to overcome them. Regardless of whether we think something is right or wrong, fair or unfair, we know God’s word is true (John 17:17), and His judgment is righteous (Jer. 11:20).
Therefore let us all walk the walk of faith more perfectly knowing that God will judge us in the last day for the deeds we have done while on earth.
